Circa: 1815 - 30 Condition: excellent antique condition Color: Pink and Green Manufacturer: Staffordshire potter
The 7 3/4 inch diameter Staffordshire plate is an elegant example of early Staffordshire two color transferware - very skillfully made both in its potting and in the transfer process. Transfering in two colors calls for two steps with care to assure that the second color will align with the pattern as transfered in the first stage.
It has a nicely gadrooned and irregularly scalloped edge with a floral/botanical design which adorns both the center and surround. The pattern name appears on the back in a cartouch. The potter of this early pattern has not been identified. By its features, we would date it to the 1815 - 30 period.
It is in great shape with one tiny flake on the back, its only flaw. |
