Circa: 1820 Condition: Fair antique condition Manufacturer: Staffordshire potter
This is an early Staffordshire green transferware teapot in a pattern seldom seen, Himalayan Birds. It bears this name on this backstamp cartouch. It is an elegant pattern of oversized flowers, multiple birds, and a nest with eggs. Clobbered coloration in delicate colors has been added very skillfully.
It measures 10 inches long by 7 inches tall. Note the pretty flowerhead finial ahd sharp molding particularly on the handle.
Now for the damage. It has two filled chips on the side of the top as pictured. There is a tight hairline on the base and a little chiplet on the spout. The finial looks like it has been reattached professionally. Why that was fixed without addressing the rest? Who knows.
We offer it, damage and all, because of its unique design, beauty, and age. The price is right. |
