Circa: 1860 Manufacturer: Staffordshire potter
This Staffordshire white ironstone sugarbowl is done in Grenade Shape, a design featuring three leaves. This shape was made by T. & R. Boote; however, this particular vessel is unmarked except for an underglaze hand-painted number.
It measures 6 1/2 inches tall by 5 1/2 inches wide. It is free of all chips and cracks. There is some minor underglaze frit affecting the underside of the bottom. One tiny spot where the glaze is thin is also evident upon close inspection.
The embossing is very sharp and beautiful. Note also the great melon finial. |
