Circa: 1860 Decade Manufacturer: Elsmore & Forster
Here is a white ironstone vegetable server in a shape that is hard to find in white ironstone without lustre embellishment. This is Portland Shape. It is a beautiful piece with a remarkable finial in a trumpet blossom shape.
It measures 12 inches long by 6 1/2 inches tall. The potter is Elsmore and Forster. This shape was registered at some time between 1855 and 1865.
This one, beautiful as it is, has a flaw - a 2 inch area on the outer part of the base rim that is rough and has been painted. I suspect there was a chip there that was filled and painted. This in no way could be considered a true restoration. This piece is worth having professionally restored, especially since it is a single chip that does no affect the integrity of the vessel. There are no other chips, cracks, hairlines, or stains. |
