Circa: 1815 Condition: Excellent antique condition Manufacturer: Riley
Reticulated platters are becoming exceedingly hard to find. Here is an early one, made in the pottery of John and Richard Riley. They ran two potteries: Nile Street from 1802 to 1814, and Hill Works from 1814 to 1828. This piece is unmarked. It is very finely potted with pearlware glaze evident.
It measures 9 3/4 by 7 3/4 inches and is almost perfect - something one seldom sees in item close to 200 years old. One of the loops at the top has a tiny line that cannot be seen from the front but is evident from the back upon close inspection. It is the only flaw. Glaze is shiny.
The pattern which is entitled Girl Musician features two women and one shepherd on the banks of a river before rapids. A manor appears on the far bank, and cattle graze in the foreground - lovely! |
