Circa: 1830s Manufacturer: Staffordshire potter
Transfer patterns that feature flags are a special treat and hard to find. Historical transferware featuring Canadian subject matter is also rare. Featured here is a large blue transferware plate with a flag pattern entitled Toronto.
It is in excellent condition, free of all flaws. Measuring 10 inches wide, this beauty is very impressive. The central image is that of a flag presented in the round. On the surround are ribbon boughs with floral stripes - gorgeous.
The backstamp does not give the pottery name. It is marked "Florentine China" with a beehive image which rests on a table.
I have two of these plates. |
