Manufacturer: Davenport Pottery Here is a very pretty little Staffordshire purple transfer plate, 5 1/2 inches wide. The pattern is Florentine Fountain.

 |
It was made in the Davenport pottery and dates to the potting period of 1830 - 1835.
It is in excellent condition, free of all flaws. The surround is gorgeous. Dark purple transfer images of butterflies, foliates and flowers against a light stippled ground alternate with similar images in white against the stippled light purple ground. The center has a large fountain with foliates and flowers.
Plates of this size are hard to find. It is larger than a cup plate, so it would be either a side plate of some kind or a plate that was once part of a children's serving set. |
