Manufacturer: Ralph Clews, Staffordshire potter
This lovely romantic transferware plate measures 10 1/2 inches wide. The scene depicts a classic urn in a garden setting this a river behind. The rim is scalloped and dimensionally beaded. It was made in the pottery of Ralph and James Clews, 1818 - 34. It bears the backstamp from the pottery which gives the pattern name.
It is in only fair condition with 4 little chippies on the every edge. They are hard to fine,The front also shows a 1" colorless line on the surround that does not penetrate to the back. We offer it because it is a pattern seldom seen. Given these flaws, the price is right. |
