Manufacturer: Staffordshire This impressive Staffordshire blue transfer platter is quite early, probably 1800 - 1815. This is the Castle pattern.

It was first introduced by Spode, then copied by Clews and Bevington during the 1817 to 1824 period. It is unmarked, so I cannot tell you which pottery produced it.
The platter measures a huge 19 by 14 inches. It had one chip on the edge which we had professionally restored with perfect results. There are some minor utensil marks as might be expected; not other flaws.
We love the pattern, particularly the arched bridge whose arching images are reflected in the river, making circle shapes. |
