Here is a beautiful Staffordshire hen on nest in excellent condition. It dates to the mid 19th century.
The lid is bisque with a hand-painted face on the chicken which is vibrant and undamaged. Along th edge the grass is painted in green with a bit of brown. She's a prolific layer - six eggs peek out from beneath her feathers, 4 in the front, and 2 in the back.
The base has a basketweave pattern and is glazed. It is hand-painted in yellow-brown.
It measures 8 inches long from the tail to the front and stands just shy of 7 inches tall.
Condition is excellent - paint shows no wear, and there are no chips, cracks, hairlines, or restoration. |
