His beautiful 9 inch plate features a British manor house, Kingsweston, Gloucestershire as it appeared in the early 1800s. Interestingly, the house still exists and is available to rent for weddings and other events.
It was made in the pottery of John and Richard Riley whose potteries operated from 1802 - 1828. It is in great condition, free of all chips and cracks. Glaze is entirely shiny and free of utensil scratching. On the back, there is a short line in the glaze only. It does not permeate the plate. The plate bears both the imprinted Riley stamp and a transfer stamp giving the name of the abode. |
