Manufacturer: Staffordshire potter
The early plate presented is entitled Sicilian. It measures 9 1/2 inches wide. This pattern is known by collectors of early transfer patterns; however, the potter is unknown. By its characteristics we would date it to the 1830 - 50 period. Condition is excellent - no chips, cracks, hairlines, stains, or restorations. It is marked with pattern name.
Interestingly, it seems to have more Asian influences to its design than Italian. Two Asian figures stand in a stylized garden. |
