This gorgeous cobalt blue transferware bowl has a pedestalled base and elaborately decorated rim with both gadrooning and scrolled accents on the white bordered rim. The dark blue transfer scene shows an Asian harbor. It measures 9 1/2 inches wide across the embellished handles and is 4 inches tall.
It is in fine condition, free of chips, cracks, hairlines, stains, and restoration. Glaze is very shiny and free of scratching. The cobalt coloration on the handles is a hand-painted addition.
It was made in the Staffordshire pottery of John and William Ridgway. This early pottery operated from 1814 until 1830. |
