This very dark brown transfer dinner plate is 10 1/2 inches wide. It has a charming romantic design. The pattern is entitled Italian Villas. It was made in the Joseph Heath & Co. pottery and dates to 1838 - 41. Its backstamp gives the pattern name and pottery initials, J. H. & Co. It also bears the pottery's pinwheel imprinted stamp.
Condition is excellent - no chips, cracks, hairlines, stains, or repairs. Glaze is entirely shiny and free of all utensil scratching.
The scene features two figures in a stylized garden setting. Behind them are the buildings of the pattern name. The edge is highly scalloped and bordered in white - a beautiful example of transfer design.
