The octagonal handled bowl presented is 11 inches wide across the handles. It once had a lid but we can offer only the base. The lid for it would need to be 8 inches wide to fit down itno a raised sides. The flange; that is, the part of the lid that fits down into the bowl to hold it in place would be 7 inches wide.
This tureen was made in the pottery of Anthony Shaw during the 1840 decade. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, hairlines, stains, or restorations. Crazing is present. It has the nice white color with bluish undertones that is so prized from the early era of Staffordshire white ironstone production. |
