Manufacturer: Adams
This double-bordered white ironstone platter has everted ribs. This gothic shape was made during the 1840's in the W. Adams and Sons pottery as well as in these: E. Challinor & Co., J.Heath, T. Goodfellow, John May, and E. Walley. Since it is not marked, I cannot tell you which is the pottery, but it does date to the 1840's.
It measures 13 inches long and is just shy of 10 inches wide. Condition is excellent - no chips, cracks, hairlines, stains, or restorations. It bears only a dot pattern from the artist who decorated it on the underside.
Love the decoration! It consists of hand-painted enamel green dotted circles - so crisp and perfect. We have appreciated the way this early design has been incorporated into Martha Stewart decorating ideas over the years. This platter would look great in a country kitchen, a French cottage design, or as part of a Staffordshire collection. |
