This large dinner plate, 10 3/4 inches wide, is bordered on the surround and 14 sided. The pattern is Delaware, a romantic design of tall elms framing a mountainous river scene. Needless to say, the Staffordshire potters who decided on the appellation had not visited. It certainly is a beautiful state, but no mountains can be found.
It is a heavy ironstone plate with only slight flow to the pattern. condition is excellent - no chips, cracks, hairlines, stains, or restorations.
It was made in the Ridgway pottery and bears the English registry mark dating it to 1847. |
