tis done in purple for the scene in the well and black for the surround.
The design is entitled Fountain Scenery. It was made in the W. Adams and Sons pottery, c. 1800 - 1864. Condition is excellent - no chips, cracks, hairlines, stains, or restoration.
The central scene features a large, multi-level fountain with a small horse at the base. A gondola appears on a river where a foot bridge leads to a stylized gothic building. The transfer is purple.
The surround, done in black has floral areas separated by diapering and scrolling. The rim is elaborately scalloped and beaded - beautiful! |
