This grand handled compote is a large one, 12 1/2 inches wide by 6 1/2 inches tall. The pattern was produced by several potters during the 19th century. This one dates back to the early years of production. It was made in the pottery of John Meir and Son. It dates to the 1837 - 50 period.
Condition is excellent - no chips, cracks, hairlines, stains, or restorations.
We like particularly the elaborate intertwined handle. The pedestalled base is nicely paneled - quite a special bowl!! |
