Manufacturer: Staffordshire
Here is a great Staffordshire featheredge platter measuring 14 1/2 by 11 1/2. It is in fabulous condition, free of chips, cracks, hairlines, stains, and restorations. Glaze is shiny and smooth.
It bears the imprinted mark of the pottery that made it, Clews, c. 1818 - 34. The back has been combed, another sign of it very early potting.
Creamware is a pleasant earthenware body with a softer feel than ironstone or whiteware. It was prevalent in the 1700's and early 1800's. On this platter, the cobalt edge was applied to a molded pattern which has a cable design on the rim and a radiating linear pattern on the surround - very rare and unique. |
