Condition: Used Manufacturer: Staffordshire
Here is a large blue willow transferware platter. It dates to the mid 1800's. It is in great condition, free of chips and cracks and measuring 16 by 12 1/4 inches.
The willow pattern was first produced in the late 1700's and has been produced ever since. This one, however, is not a reproduction but a genuine antique. Meaning has been read into the multiple elements of this design which include an arched bridge with three figures, the willow tree in the foreground, a Chinese junk and a pagoda. The design was never actually put together as is seen in classic patterning by the Chinese. These elements were, however, all taken from Chinese designs. |
