Manufacturer: Staffordshire
This large octagonal platter measures 15 by 11 1/2 inches. It is a heavy ironstone platter, bordered on the rim and paneled on the surround.

It is in excellent condition, free of chips and cracks. The glaze is very shiny and free of utensil scratching.

The pattern is entitled Roselle. It is a romantic design featuring a stylized riverside chalet in a mountainous setting. The surround has floral baskets framed by a meandering floral vine. It is superimposed on linear patterning.

This platter was made in the pottery of J. Meir. The pottery operated from 1837 to 1897. It bears the English registry mark which dates it to 1848.
