The darling Staffordshire purple transfer cream pitcher presented measures 6 1/2 inches wide by 4 1/2 inches tall. The delicate pattern is entitled Fern, a design of foliates and tiny flowers. It has an early shape with scrolled handle and thumb print type indentations on the base which extend up as everted ridges along the sides. The color is a light blue-purple foliates with somewhat darker florets.
It was made in the pottery of James and George Alcock, c. 1839 - 46. Condition is excellent, no chips, cracks, hairlines, stains, or restorations. |
