This blue transferware platter measures 13 1/2 by 11 1/2 inches. The design is that of a single rose accompanied by blossoms that appear to be passion flowers. Most interesting is the surround which has a bold zigzag pattern.
This platter is in excellent condition, free of chips, cracks, hairlines, stains, and restorations. The color is slightly different from most blue transfer hues. It is more blue-grey that most.
The design is entitled Unique; the potter is unknown. By its characteristics, we would date it to the mid-1800s. |
