The plate presented measures 6 1/2 inches wide, a hard-to-find size. The pattern is The Gem. It was made in the Thomas, John, and Joseph Mayer, 1843 - 55.
The most interesting aspect of this plate is the intricate pattern on the surround which consists of tiny foliate and moss-like webbing onto which are superimposed medallions showing scenes. They are small and jeweled, giving them the appearance of gems. The central scene has the typical romantic elements - peaceful river, classic building, framing elm, and two figures at water's edge.
Condition is excellent - no chips, cracks, hairlines, stains, or restorations. We have several matching plates. If you want to buy more than one, please email us so we can tell you how many we have on hand. |
