This Staffordshire plate bears one of our favorite patterns, Chinese Pastime. It was made in the Davenport pottery and dates to 1820 - 1860.
The design features two children at play, one with a stick and ring, the other with a pinwheel. In addition to the charm of the subject matter, the beauty of the surround design also distinguishes this pattern. It consists of the typical floral and scroll elements with the additon of tiny berry images that add richness. The edge is irregularly scalloped with a darker border which serves to frame the scene.
The plate measures 9 inches wide. Condition is excellent - no chips, cracks, hairlines, stains, or restorations. Glaze is quite shiny. We have several matching plates, so if you would like more than one, please send an email so we can inform you of the current number on hand. |
