Manufacturer: Staffordshire
Here is a gorgeous American historical Staffordshire flat rimmed soup plate. It measures a large 10 inches wide and is in good condition, free of chips. It has a colorless hairline on the surround which we show in a close-up. It also has a bit of rubbing on the inner ridge of the surround which we have also shown in close-up. Glaze is very shiny.
The scene is one of the pottery's Picturesque Views series and dates to 1813 - 1834. It depicts North Fishkill on the Hudson River.
What a carefully potted plate it is! The scene is very sharp and carefully applied to the plate. Linear perspective is an important element of the scene. The viewer sees the scene as if standing on the road. To the right, a cabin appears on a bluff. As the road ahead curves to the right out of sight, two figures appear on the banks of the river. Sunlight directs the eye from that point, to a point on the opposite bank. Mountains appear behind. The surround has the distinctive parrot and flower border of the series.
