This large and lovely black transfer plate was made in the Adams pottery during the 1820 - 30 period. The pattern, which was never named, has come to be known as Temple Warriors. All scenes feature guards in native dress before a stylized temple-like building. In this scene, the guards seem to be checking the brush using a rather lethal looking spear.
The surround is scalloped, bordered in white and dimensionally beaded - gorgeous! The earthenware body is thin and light - soft paste in character.
It is in good condition with one little chip or flake in the white border as pictured. The inner ridge shows a bit of wear as well.
Given the two flaws, the plate has been priced accordingly. |
