This lovely plate 10 inches wide, is unmarked. The rim highly scalloped rim is bordered in white and has beading that consists of a line of tiny raised dots. This kind of detail is indicative of early potting, probably 1820 - 35. It is unmarked. This was produced in a quality pottery. The earthenware body is particularly dense, and the transfer design is qite sharp. The scene depicts Asian images. There is a mosque with a sailboat in the foreground along riverbank. The surround has diapering and floral images. The design has been documented in volumes of early patterns; however, the potter has yet to be identified. It is in excellent shape, completely free of utensil scratching. On the back, there is one small flake on the rim, its only flaw. |
