Manufacturer: Staffordshire
Offered is a large blue transferware platter measuring 17 by 14 inches. It has a white border and an elaborately scalloped rim. The pattern of this platter is Asiatic Pheasants, a floral design with a pheasant in flight. The surround has images of flowers and geometrics as well as a band of beading along the white border.
It is in excellent condition, free of chips, cracks, hairlines, stains, and restorations. There are some underglaze black specks on the underside, a product of its early potting. The color of this platter is a muted blue-gray.
The backstamp is that of Podmore Walker and Company, which operated in Tunstall. This pottery operated from 1834 - 59.
