Manufacturer: Staffordshire
This item is a large, unmarked, and early pearlware coffeepot. The charming design features a mosque-like domed building at river's edge. Several figures kneel on the bank as they fish. To the left, another figure approaches with a camel trailing behind him. The top of the pot and the domed lid have bands of elaborate floral designs.
It is very finely potted. This early pot dates to the first part of the 1800s, probably 1800 - 1815. Note the circular opening on the inside of the spout. These coffeepots differ from teapot designs of the period which included sieves to strain tea leaves.
With domed lid in place, it measures 11 inches tall by 9 inches wide. The lid's steamhole vents through the finial - how nicely designed!
Condition is very good! The glaze has two little glops (see the picture). This is not damage but we note it for accuracy. There were two chips on the lid and one on the base which we had professionally restored with perfect results.
This coffeepot would make a fine addition to the collection of a person with discriminating tastes. |
