Here is a 7 1/4 inch purple transfer plate in the Canova pattern. This design was originally done at a tribute to an artist who had passed away. The central image is a classic urn (he had been cremated.) Behind it appears a river scene. The edge is irregularly scalloped. The curves align with the scenic images and floral patterning on the surround.
It was made in the pottery of Thomas Mayer, c. 1826 - 35. Condition is excellent - no flaws. It bears the pottery's backstamp with pattern and pottery name. |
