The 7 1/2 inch plate presented is Palestine, an Oriental black transferware plate made in the pottery of William Adams and Company. The Adams pottery operated for several decades in the 19th Century. This design dates to the 1830 period.
The scene depicts three figures on a carpet before an elaborate tent. The surround has scenic and floral reserves separated by a band of undulating geometrics - striking.
Condition is excellent. There are no chips, cracks, hairlines, stains, or repairs. Glaze is very shiny. |
