Davenport Purple Transferware Plate, CHINESE PASTIME This Staffordshire plate bears one of our favorite patterns, Chinese Pastime. It was made in the Davenport pottery and dates to 1820 - 1860.

The design features two children at play, one with a stick and ring, the other with a pinwheel. In addition to the charm of the subject matter, the beauty of the surround design also distinguishes this pattern. It consists of the typical floral and scroll elements with the additon of tiny berry images that add richness. The edge is irregularly scalloped with a darker border which serves to frame the scene.

The plate measures 9 inches wide. Condition is excellent - no chips, cracks, hairlines, stains, or restorations. Glaze is quite shiny. We have several matching plates, so if you would like more than one, please send an email so we can inform you of the current number on hand.

11061

Small Stevenson Purple Transferware Plate, MILLENIUM Here is a prized pattern in a rare size, 6 1/2 inches wide. The pattern is Millenium, a misspelling of Millennium. The pattern was made to show the biblical prophecy predicting the second coming of Christ who would rule for a thousand years. At the top is the all-seeing eye of God. In the center is a child and lambs with a lion. Beneath is a praying figure and "Give us this day our daily Bread." On the surround are images of plenty - fruit and flowers.

This plate was made in the pottery of Ralph Stevenson & Son. It dates to 1832 - 35.

There is a flaw on the back side, a small chip to the edge. It does not show from the front. Usually, this pattern sells for a very high price. Given the flaw, the price is right.

The color is light on medium purple with some areas of dappled color variation as is often found with purple transfer.

Davenport Purple Transferware 5 1/2 Inch Plate, FLORENTINE FOUNTAIN, c. 1830 - 35 Here is a very pretty little Staffordshire purple transfer plate, 5 1/2 inches wide. The pattern is Florentine Fountain. It was made in the Davenport pottery and dates to the potting period of 1830 - 1835.

It is in excellent condition, free of all flaws. The surround is gorgeous. Dark purple transfer images of butterflies, foliates and flowers against a light stippled ground alternate with similar images in white against the stippled light purple ground. The center has a large fountain with foliates and flowers.

Plates of this size are hard to find. It is larger than a cup plate, so it would be either a side plate of some kind or a plate that was once part of a children's serving set.

Stevenson 10 1/2 Inch Purple Transfer Staffordshire Plate, MILLENIUM, c. 1832 - 35 Here is a Staffordshire large purple transfer plate in the prized pattern Millenium pattern, a misspelling of Millennium. It measures 10 1/2 inches wide and bears the pattern name in backstamp cartouche. We have never had a piece of this design that included potter initials or name; however, it is known to have been made in the pottery of Ralph Stevenson and Son, c. 1832 - 35.

The design features elements of the biblical prophesy in Isaiah of a thousand years of peace on earth under the rule of God.

It shows a child with a lion and lamb along with other wild animals at rest together. A figure in prayer is seen with "Give us this day our daily Bread." Above the lion and child flies a dove with "PEACE ON EARTH" below. The center scene is separated from the surround by bold white zigzag patterning. On the surround are images of fruit and grain to denote abundance. At the top is the all-seeing eye of God. Under it, is a bible which is opened to the Isaiah prophesy.

It is plate is done in medium purple with areas in dark shades. The edge is scalloped. Condition is excellent. The glaze is shiny, and transfer is very sharp. It has a tiny ding to the underside foot ring, shown in close-up.

Staffordshire Purple Transferware Plate, Asian Scenery This lovely plate 10 inches wide, is unmarked. The rim highly scalloped rim is bordered in white and has beading that consists of a line of tiny raised dots. This kind of detail is indicative of early potting, probably 1820 - 35. It is unmarked. This was produced in a quality pottery. The earthenware body is particularly dense, and the transfer design is qite sharp.
The scene depicts Asian images. There is a mosque with a sailboat in the foreground along riverbank. The surround has diapering and floral images. The design has been documented in volumes of early patterns; however, the potter has yet to be identified.
It is in excellent shape, completely free of utensil scratching. On the back, there is one small flake on the rim, its only flaw.
